Hi all,

I'm new here to this forum. I've been on and off thinking about starting my own business for a couple of years now but I'd get hung up on trying to come up with the next big original idea or think I could start x if only I learned y so I'll spend a couple of months just doing y and then forget to ever apply it to x. Since the start of the year I've been working hard at getting myself more disciplined each day; creating processes in my own life, building better habits and developing a more positive mindset. Just general self improvement stuff, but I've been seeing the difference so I'm ready to start actively tackling my desire to be free of a job and create something of value to other people.

My background is in books and I have one idea of for a website that I know would be useful to a niche market of readers but I can't figure out how to monetize it and I'm also not sure if it would be something that enough people would find useful to generate a large amount of traffic.

I have also been considering writing, a couple of years ago I wrote two short stories in the more bizarre and humorous side of the erotica world and with no marketing or trying to actively sell the stories made a couple of thousand dollars to date for what was only a few hours of work. The whole thing had been a joke at the time between some friends and I'm not proud of the results, but I wonder if I should just start trying to churn out these absurd stories and try to build an actual fan base. I had a conversation with a 'real' author the other day who had labored for five years on their book and it's gotten some critical acclaim and has sold decently but not well enough so that the author doesn't have to have another job to support their writing and most literary novelists I know of also have to supplement their writing income with teaching and other work. For me, I think I have a mental block that if you're going to write you have to starve and suffer for it, which is stupid.

Anyway, this might have been a little long winded. If you've read it, thank you! I'm just starting out on the fast lane path and this forum is a treasure trove of information. I've spent way too much time tonight reading all kinds of inspiring things. It looks like there are a lot of great people here helping each other out. I look forward to being a member of this community and hope that as time goes on I can be of some assistance to others.
