People who think that they "can't" they're actually lying to themselves, because mostly they just "won't" for some reason (read existential kink) and in order to solve this problem sit in silence for five minutes, ask yourself questions "why not? what is holding me back? what is the payoff of staying this way?" and ignore each thought - stay with the feeling - let it pass = solved.

Absolutely agree.

"I can't" cloaks "I won't" and makes the liar feel better about their belief.

I can't lose weight.

No, it's I won't change or optimize my diet.
It's I won't exercise and get moving.

It's I won't get out of my echo chamber and hear a different perspective.

I CAN'T lose weight because I WON'T do what's necessary.

So much in life applies to this simple exercise.
