Toyota (http://guardianlv.com/2014/04/toyota-motor-corporation-joins-exodus-from-california-to-texas)
Occidental Petroleum (125th largest company in the USA)
Calpine Corp.
Fluor (38,000 employees)
Apple (http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/May/26/apple-builds-in-texas-not-california/)
Chevron
DropBox
eBay (added 1,000 jobs to Austin in lieu of San Jose)
Hewlett Packard
Legal Zoom Inc
Motorola & Flextronics
Visa
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
Hyundai Capital America (transferred jobs to Texas and Georgia)
Tickets.com (Closed Concord office, moved to Texas)
EDM Laboratories
Kairak (closed Fullerton plant, moved to Forth Worth)
All of the above have either moved fully, expanded in Texas instead of their Californian base, or are in the process of leaving the state.
Also, found this which is pretty funny and sums it up: "The cost of a one-way U-Haul truck leaving California for Texas is more than twice the cost to rent that same truck going from Texas to California, suggesting that there are twice as many trucks and people leaving California for Texas than vice-versa. Based on the huge difference in demand for one-way truck rentals, there is a premium of more than 100% for Californians to rent trucks going to Texas, and large discounts for trucks going in the opposite direction to California. U-Haul’s market-based pricing seems to confirm the California exodus to Texas of jobs, people and businesses like Toyota and Occidental."
Ultimately, people need to go wherever the hell they want, but to argue California somehow compares to Texas in the Business/Jobs/Growth category is disingenuous.
In any and all major rankings Texas is near the top and California is near the bottom (usually last, and second last).
