I'm going to investigate writing Kindle fiction. I've never considered writing stories, though I have spent a lot of time studying story structure as it relates to screenwriting. My interest in screenwriting has resulted in a backlog of story ideas, characters, plots, and scenes that could be re-purposed towards a novel/story. My primary interest is in getting quicker results from creative efforts.
I'm not a fan of the quantity-over-quality approach taken by many writers, but I do agree with not doing any more than needs to be done. For example, if a 10k word novella sells for 99 cents, and a 70k word novel sells for 99 cents, you might as well write 7 novellas in the time it takes to write 1 novel. Especially if the novellas are well done.
I read about a system some people are following (by Dean Wesley Smith), where you write a 10k word book every week, 50 books a year. 2k words a day, and 2 days doing research and cover design. Or something like that. That sounds insane to me, but with some practice, who knows.
There will be no way for me to know if I can write fiction, until I start doing it. I know zero about Kindle books, marketing, etc. I will start by looking for a genre to serve, and by reading some of the popular fiction ebooks.
