I have been reading the forum for some time, and constantly new business opportunities pop up in my mind. However, reading the book in itself makes me way surer about my goals.
It is just that all the great execution makes you wonder if you can do that too. Especially process threads motivates one to the same, even though it might not be your expertise.

I would like have your opinion on this.

I Remember when I just joined the forum...

Came with the mindset I had to be cut from some
special cloth or privileged with a head start to be successful.

Through my lurking ( I didn't ask many questions) I saw persons
executing like a mofo and those who executed beautifully.

I have only bought an INSIDERS subscription once but that was the final nail
in the coffin.

because....

It really opened my eyes.

Now I knew what I had in my head, was no longer
some welp of a dream...but I could actually achieve this like many on here have done
and are still doing it.

Folks here, who were in worst situations than myself homeless, battling addictions,
in thousands of debt and rose above it all....

So why can't I?

Who had none of those problems to begin with.

Stop doubting yourself and start believing man.

It is a huge distraction for me. However, lately I have been living by a few rules...

1. I only look at it on my commute, at lunchtime, and at the end of the day. On weekends, I let myself slip (like now).

2. I no longer try to incorporate every bit of great advice into my venture. I tend to look at it more like a vast library and I am filing away the little bits of info so I can go back and find them when needed.

3. I no longer let myself compare my progress to others. I didn't make $1,000,000 in revenue this year? My products aren't flying off the shelves? I don't have 20 bestsellers? No big deal. I used to get derailed by feeling like I'm not far enough along. Now, I just try to go forward each day.

I've been making a serious effort at looking at the FLF after making some progress. It is becoming a reward for accomplishing something that day.

Doesn't always work, but I am aware of my problem and that is the first battle won.

I would have to say the Fastlane keeps me on track to take action and gives me accountability to get through the process. I don't see it as a distraction. I think I've grown and changed a lot in here the last year and half, so I can say it definitely is a positive. :)

Of course it's a distraction, isn't anything that takes you away from work? BUT, it's probably the best distraction out there. It's full of valuable knowledge and experience that you can tap into. I'd much rather spend an hour distracted on here learning than an hour distracted on something useless like facebook. Just my 2 cents though.

I've used it as a distraction - as a way to procrastinate on things I should be doing. I've also used it as one of the best learning tools I've found. Anywhere. Ever.

The book is a collection of financial tenets. The forum is a collection of real-life applications of those tenets. They can and do compliment each other.

Of course you can. The people succeeding(publicly sharing their process) on this forum are not lottery winners, they're action takers. You can absolutely do it too.

The way you use the forum decides if it's a distraction for you. If you use it right, the thought of it being a distraction wouldn't even come to your mind.

I don't consider anything that improves my thought processes, or helps keep me motivated a distraction. That's why I've joined here and quit looking at other forums of questionable value.

Oh, and let me add this: How many people who have become members of this forum and made it to the fast lane considered this a waste of time?

I don't see how anyone could view this forum as a distraction with all the knowledge and mentoring that's shared here. Not to mention the fact that it's being given away for FREE !! People go to college and spend thousands to learn what's being taught on this forum everyday. If I'm not working on my business I can't think of any place I'd rather be !

Anything at all has the potential to be a distraction. It really depends how you use it.

A briefcase loaded with hundred dollar bills could be the catalyst to start your multi million dollar business. Or it could be an enormous distraction that results in you failing to start your multi million dollar business.

In other words, the forum will be exactly what YOU want it to be. Either an incredible resource or an incredible distraction.

I have been reading the forum for some time, and constantly new business opportunities pop up in my mind.

I already run a business, already have made more in a few days than most people my age make in years.

So, I don't get distracted by "business ideas." I think trying to come up with business ideas can be one of the time wasting endeavors, unless you really, really know what you're doing. Better to jump on board with people who've already figure $HIT out.

When I post here, I am either taking a break from work, taking a break from closing, on a call, or perhaps trying to chip away at some writer's block before I send an important e-mail to a client or partner.

There is a high degree of entertainment for most people on this forum... and that could just be due to the bonhomie, the feeling of being around fellow hustling brothers and sisters. For most, this is probably a good thing, because this forum may be the only place on the planet that they get consistent doses of entrepreneur-focused inspiration, advice, knowledge, and even friends.

So, I guess my answer is that it's a delicate balance. I am usually isolated while working, and I find posting on this forum less time-wasting than going out to a bar, or going tailgating for an entire day.

People surf porn, gamble on football, chase women, play video games, and smoke weed.

I bet some of those activities are enjoyed whilst enjoying the fastlane. Just sayin'.

You wondering if this forum full of entrepreneurs and their stories and journeys a distraction to your business aspirations?

Some days I wonder what the F*ck we're doing here.

This is Nietzsche's recurring story of Zarasthustra.

The enlightened ones descend from the mountain to share this wisdom and knowledge.

The dumb masses don't know what to do with it. :(

Ironically, the OP actually reflects one of my main reasons for showing up: people that don't get it.

I am surrounded by people in my life that don't get it, people whose highest aspiration is working a government job, just because it provides "security."

Nice to show up at a place where people understand at least 50% of what I say.

Perhaps a fellow crazy like @Ninjakid gets a little more than 50%.:rockon::greedy:

If this forum is a distraction, you're using it wrong.

I agree with Allen. you will get a lot of motivation, inspiration and encouragement here. I suggest that if you have ideas in mind, write it down. If you are not doing anything, go back to your list and start planning. Ask questions here, there are many experienced people in this community who are willing to help and share their expertise.

This ^^^

The forum is like any other tool. You can sit there and stare at it all day and accomplish nothing, or you can use it for education, motivation, inspiration, communication, networking, etc.

I can sit in my living room all day holding a hammer, or I can go out and build something great with it. The end result is a consequence of how I use the tool, not the tool itself.

There're a lot of things I don't know about when It comes to business.

My go to place is here. This place provides almost everything you can imagine involving businesses.Sometime's I use the forum to get away from a frustrating deal or something of the sort, but even then I'm soaking up knowledge. This place isn't a distraction. It's a sponge. How you use the forums is up to you but only a slow laner would say this is a distraction.

Hate me all you want for calling you a slow laner but look how much I care

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's like saying, "will food kill me?"

Well shit, you need food to live unless you're one of these people who's subscribed to a life of diet pills and nutrient supplements.

Now, eat four Big Macs a day (which are delicious), and see if you aren't at risk of a heart attack or stroke within a few months.

What you're doing is you're trying to make a generalization of something by labelling it, so that you can give your mind the satisfaction of known and being able to "rationalize."

The forum in itself is not a distraction, nor is a non-distraction (sorry I can't think of an antonym for distraction right now lol). It means to you whatever you choose to perceive it as by the value you get from it!

The reason why some people would get offended at you suggesting this place is definitely a distraction is because lots of members contribute here simply to help people like you better their lives. You want to be a Fastlaner obviously, or you wouldn't be here. And a lot of members with a lot of life experience have contributed, and are still contributing a shit ton of stuff to help you achieve your goals.

No one is making you get on your desktop, laptop, smartphone, or whatever and log on to this site. So if you find that it's distracting you and keeping you from where you want to be, consider that the issue lays within you. It's easy to look at outer things and put labels on them and find all the reasons why it's holding us back, but sometimes our greatest obstacles are ourselves man.

Isn't a distraction something you gain no value from but takes up your (my) time?

Is this thread a distraction in itself? Not if you're trying to find motivation and reasons why this forum is valuable. Not if you're actually here to learn AND/OR help.

For me, this thread is a distraction only because I already know there is value here but having to read through a bunch of info I either already know, already agree with, etc. is just a waste of my time....

But then again... If I read this AND if 90% of the stuff I read is dribble but then, someone throws something in that's cool, funny or just new to me, it's worth it. It now has value. Ninjakid's undying love for pineapples for example - that was completely stupid but so funny. Now when I see Ninjakid's post I'm going to associate him with pineapples and I've already envisioned him playing Fruit Ninja and giggling like a child every time he cuts a pineapple in half.

If I find that little nugget, I've just increased my knowledge or I've been entertained for a brief moment. There's the value for me: I prefer to learn something but I'll settle for entertainment as well.

The other valuable part is even simpler: what if I take my time to respond. What if I help uplift someone's spirits? What if I pass on some hard-earned knowledge? To me, that adds value and makes me personally feel like I'm helping even if I don't know that person.

This is a great forum, but if you're viewing it more than taking action, yes it is becoming a negative distraction for you.

Nothing can teach you more than doing.

It is what you make it. Moving to Arizona with all the sunshine could have been a distraction for me... instead, it was an accelerant.

The mods and I tend to move the "distractions" into the [HASHTAG]#Landfill[/HASHTAG] forum. If you want to be distracted and left with a few "WTFs" -- take a peek in there.

Is it a distraction YES.

The question is,

Is it is USEFUL or NOT USEFUL distraction to you?

If you currently are not running a business or have an idea... reading this forum in your down time can be a very USEFUL distraction

If you have a running business, this forum is potentially NOT A USEFUL distraction (that is of course if you are not using it in a way that is aiding your work)

I just read the " Anonymous Donor Comes Forward, Gives INSIDERS Sub" thread and was inspired want to start contributing to the Forum as well.

If you know that this forum is potentially a distraction for you but you know it's still worth coming back then using a blocking software might be a solution for you.

I still use the software on a daily basis because I struggle with this problem as well. (Awesome forum content, but too much of it distracts me from my work. So I limit myself during working hours and allow only work-related software and websites during that time)

So if you browse this forum on a PC please just reply to this thread and state why you would want to stay away from this forum and what you would like to do instead?

I will give away 5 yearly subscriptions to our software FocusMe.

(each worth $39 at the moment; see the website http://focusme.co for more info about the software.)

I will select the winners based on the quality of the answers.

@mods: I hope do not violate any rules by making this offer and mentioning our website. I just feel that using a blocking software is a good solution to this common problem and want to pay it forward. (Besides that I think it's a great way to get active here again for me and not just profiting form the content posted here :)

You've been here a year and paid to be an INSIDERS so obviously you aren't here to just pimp your wares. We let it slide. :)
