Joomla templates anyone?

I purchased a joomla website template and am running a LAMP environment I believe. After having problems with downloading the template from template monster we finally got it squared away, I thought.

Now that I've got a good bit of the site in order and a few extensions installed I cannot edit the CSS file. Template monster tells me I need to reinstall the template and make sure the CSS file is editable. They tell me I'll lose everything I've done. WTF? So when will they tell me that one again, when I'm done!

I'm beginning to have serious doubts about this system. I've also heard that the one shopping cart (virtuemart) that is supposed to run smoothly with joomla does not run smoothly and has very little support.

I'm considering buying a copy of Dreamweaver and going at it that way.

Any thoughts on how to get on the right track?
