You have the Sidewalkers, Slowlaners, and Fastlaners.
But NYC Firefighters (and I'm sure there are many more like them) should be put into a completely separate category. You can call the SlowWalkers (maybe you can think of something better because that kinda sounds like a zombie).
I'm not talking about all of them, but at least 80% of them.
A SlowWalker is a combination of the Sidewalker and the Slowlaner. They have a majority of traits of both groups.
-They make a decent amount of money (120k per year in basically 2-3 days a week + whatever they make from side work. I estimate another 20+K cash), like a sidewalker, but have a 457, and pension like a slowlaner.
-They spend a ton of money on wasteful crap like TV's, Fancy cars, Vacations, etc.., yet complain about paying $1 for a bottle of water, our firehouse meals being $12 a night instead of 10, and most recently, a lost $2 pencil sharpener (it was most likely less than that lol).
-They complain about having no time to do anything, yet they waste so much time on absolute crap.
-They spend money like their living for today (Then complain about how much they spend), but are always talking about their plans for their future (with the shitload of money they will receive from their 457 or 401k).
-They want the most toys, yet they always talk about saving
-They barely finished highschool, yet always talk about getting more credits so they can make an extra 10k a year as a Lieutenant
-They love the Lottery and love compound interest just as much
-They motto is live for today, but somehow save for tomorrow
-As for responsibility and control: Everything bad happens to them and they are always blaming other, but they will provide for their family with their job, pension and 401k. They will rely on others for this, such as their employer, the government, and the economy. Oh yea - forgot to add "My friend 'bob' who has this hot stock that will triple for sure!"
I'm sure everyone knows people like this and when I think about which category to put them in, I am always confused. I think that they are in their own separate category.
One good thing about working with these type of people every day, and listening to the same old story day in and day out, is that it gives me more and more motivation to get the hell out of there.
I love my job because its one of the greatest "jobs" in the world, but can not wait for the day I don't have to rely on it, and eventually retire many years early.
