The system in the US is rigged against healthy food and small manufacturers.

In Europe I buy almost all of my healthy stuff in small health food stores. Even in major cities, there are only small health food stores - no huge chains like Whole Foods or Sprouts.

So if I wanted to make and sell healthy protein bars in Europe there's no problem. I can very easily call up all these small stores and build up my distribution store by store.

In the US? No chance. I'd have to somehow get into one of the huge chains that will squash me with their terms.

From what I've seen so far in the US, there are little to no small health food stores. In Miami, I found one and it looks more like that weird kind of an alternative health food store with supplements rather than a general health food store. Other than that, for all your healthy shopping needs you need to go to Whole Foods or Sprouts. And they'll either negotiate too hard to make it work or they won't let you in with a proper healthy protein bar (otherwise there would be some but there are none).

I've travelled a lot but never through the US. It actually kind of blows my mind that they don't have true health food stores. I know so many where if you even say the word chemical you would get bounced lol.
