Hi, I’m new here. My name is Gabby and I just turned 24. I know I am “young” but at times I feel old and know that every second is an opportunity to get one step closer to my dream of retiring early. I know there are so many steps before that but I feel that I have none to waste. I think I always knew that I wanted to retire early and dreamed of a life that I thought was worth living. Traveling with my family, spending quality time with them in the backyard of our comfortable home and being able to truly relax and enjoy one another’s company. I have never really been in need but I have seen money and financial stressors tear families apart and that is the last thing I ever wanted for my own. I longed to work in the arts or design industry and was told at a young age that that field was too competitive and that if I ever wanted to be successful I had to be really good at what I did if I wanted to make it. So from the ages of 15-18 It was engrained in me that rather than follow my dreams, I needed to pursue things like job security and higher paying jobs even if I meant hating your career - I guess. I’d spend the next six years (to current) of my precious time pursuing different degrees and never really choosing one - essentially wasting my time becuase the one career I truly wanted to pursue I was convinced wasn’t a good idea. It’s funny at times that we listen to and adopt the ideas of those that have no expertise in the one area we are asking. I love my parents and am forever grateful for all of their help and support along the way, but I question why I felt to believe and trust that they knew best or even what they were talking about when their very situation over the years has shown that they haven’t.

Fast forward and I am about to graduate with my associates of nursing degree. This will be my third associated but one that I can actually do something with. I have one year left and while everything in me wishes I could drop everything to pursue a business - something I’ve always wanted, to just be able to have something of my own - I know that it is probably in my best Interest to finish the nursing degree. To me it is mostly a means to an end. It will give me better resources and as a close friend and new aquaintance (who was kind enough to introduce me to the fast lane) likes to call them freedom fighters, that I could pursue a business with.

To tie this up, last year I took probably my first step in the right direction. It was amidst covid when everyone was sitting on their hands at home - and I’m not really sure how it happened but I got a fire under my butt that I couldn’t quite quench. I was scouring Instagram and started to see a pattern of the people I was following. I followed so many online businesses and I just got the crazy idea that “hey so many people are doing this - why can’t I?” And I got so worked up and excited about the idea that I could really do it and make it happen for me that I ran with it. It was not easy at all as I thought it might me. Why is it that whoever "they" is, makes us run and jump through so many hoops just to try and open a business. Anywho, I did what I thought I would never be able to do and checked off the endless amount of tasks needed just to begin and finally opened my own online shop. I really pursued it in the beginning but I had so much on my plate and did not realize how difficult a task and how time consuming a business could be. I quickly became discouraged and tried different things to draw in more business but my drive that I felt at the beginning fizzled out and I started to worry about things like,"Is having the business even worth it if it is costing me more to keep it open then I am even bringing in?" I slowly began to convince myself that maybe I just didn't have what it took to be able to run the business. Maybe not enough time, enough money, resources, encouragement, advice, marketing skills or knowledge. Looking back I realize that I accomplished leaps and bounds in just starting and being able to overcome many of the earlier obstacles of actually opening the business. Clearly there will be plenty more obstacles and hoops to jump through in reaching the success needed to fund my future and dreams.

I want to and am ready to leap again. My time is limited as I am in a full time nursing program and a single mom to one beautiful and crazy independent two year old girl. I want to finish recieving my degree at the moment as I believe that it will allow me more time and resources to dedicate to running the business and trying again. I don't feel ready to open the business right this second but I want to do everything I can and put things in place so that I am ready and prepared to open my business again with exponentially greater success in the near future. I would happily take any advice or words of wisdom or just your own experiences for this journey of mine. I am so appreciative and want to say a small thank you for the small and extremely lucky acquaintance I met @Ravens_Shadow who showed me the millionaire Fastlane and relit my fire to pursue all that I know and he constantly reminds me I am capable of.
