I sold supplements, and by sold I meant that I had purchased too much stuff, and didn't know how to get rid of it. I immediately tried to sell it online, but because of fierce competition, I was unable to sell it for a good profit.
I knew people who knew other people looking for supplements, gym rats and whatnot, and thought hey this stuff was cheap, I'll let them do the selling. I'd tell them to give me half of what they made, I just wanted my money back and maybe a little bit extra.
I didn't expect it to do so well. I now had overpaid salemen, and wasn't sure what I was. I would go to the gym and sometimes strike up a deal, very rarely and sold it at a good profit, like a retailer. I was a middleman, because sometimes I would sell a lot of stuff like DMAE and make a small profit, and other times I was like a supplier, as my friend would tell me he'd make me some cash if I could give him a supplement I already had.
www.1fast400.com was a site I used for my supplements. It was profitable, but not enough to call it the fastlane. I used it as a side project, and it never made me enough for me to call it a success.
In the end, I made a lot of friends, made a little money, and learned a lot of lessons.
1. Know what you are. If you see a need, and market yourself, make sure you know what you are to them. If you are gonna be more than one, then make sure you know what your default is. I could have made a lot more retailing, but I didn't because I felt bad about not giving people a deal, when I gave someone else a deal. Business is business. If you don't make money off them someone else will. I see them retailing for much more than I sold them for, and I failed to realize that they were already getting a better deal with me retailing than they were with other methods.
Supplements are competitive. Make sure you are special to them. Offer advice and help. Don't just sell and go. Give them help and support. Tell them about promotions and give out free stuff, something that will have an effect, but not too much otherwise it will be seen as cheap.
If you sell stuff at too cheap, it will be seen as a knock off or something is wrong with it. Don't do this either.
