A while ago, while posting in my business' progress thread, @Andy Black posed a very important question. We are creating a directory business of sorts. He asked me which side I was planning on focusing on, the businesses or the users? I've been focusing on strategies to target and sign up businesses, but have been wracking my brain about how to get the users to sign up.
Opportunity knocked on my door twice, I let them in. @Hvazquez07 posted a great thread PPC advertising strategy and I stumbled upon Digital Marketer's great podcast about the explosive growth of Dollar Beard Club's business. What do they both have in common? Facebook video.
I plan on following up this initial post with a case study on both Dollar Beard Club and Dollar Shave Club's viral video success, so ya'll can see the fruits of the effort.
So, here's what we're doing.
We are creating a 90 second video. The video will definitely emulate the flow of both Beard and Shave Club's videos. The aim is to use comedy to get the word out about our business, without being overtly salesly.
Progress so far
I wanted to wait until we had some actual progress before posting.
The best part. Total cost thus far? $0.00 With the exception of a few props, I don't anticipate spending anything other than beer and pizza.
Once the video is made and edited, we'll plant the seeds to make this thing go viral.
Yes, I know. If anyone had the formula to create a viral video, everyone would be doing it. But I think I've found it. We'll see if I'm right.
I want to create this thread so that INSIDERS can learn how to create a video and how to advertise it.

- We already have a venue. One of the small businesses we are working with is overly excited to volunteer their shop and their staff to help make our video
- A good friend of mine is a videographer and will be shooting the video for free and editing it. As long as we give credit to him
- Being Marines, we are enlisting the help of a bunch of fellow Marines to help as actors and labor. Cost: beer and pizza
- I've already written the script, made some revisions. I have a friend who is a professional screen writer who actively writes comedy look the script over. He is very excited about the project and gave his thumbs up.
