Prototype Building - Where to start

Hi everyone,

I have an idea for a product, which is in existence already but I would like to put a twist to it, add features to it and design and construct it tougher and more stylish. Manufacturing is already taking care of, I have connected with someone who will mass produce it from a prototype version of the product and they can also manufacture the device without the prototype, all they're asking for is diagrams and CAD drawings.

The product I'm looking to build is an electronic device. I believe the two key players I'll need to help me build this is an Electrical Engineer with the schematics including all of the features which I request for, and a designer to construct the body and outside of the device. What type of designer would I be looking for? Industrial designer? How much should I be paying them for this type of work? Should the design be done before the internals are worked on?

Is their anything I'm forgetting or am I looking at things in the wrong direction?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
