I stayed up late recording more music last night, and I stopped when my fingers hurt too bad. I keep thinking I will eventually stop getting sore fingers, but maybe I won't ever.
I figure it is like professional athletes vs. weekend warriors. It hurts less when I ride my bike up a mountain now, but it always hurts. The pros do that stuff 5x as much as I do and just keep going.
Same with great thinkers. The more you use your brain the stronger it gets.
Humans really are amazing creatures. Every time I think that I am too old to be starting new things, or improving upon things that I already do, I kick myself and remind myself that I am not at peak ANYTHING. So I still have TONS of room to grow everywhere.
I am good at a lot of things, but I am not a master at any. In a way I think this is a blessing. I couldn't imagine the feeling of being the best at something, like a pro athlete or a world class guitar shredder or bodybuilder. When age starts to rob them of their peak and there is nothing they can do about it, that has to be frightening. I turn 40 pretty quick, but I am still getting stronger, my endurance is going up, my ability to think on abstract issues, and my guitar playing are all still improving. I am nowhere near my ceiling on any of my abilities.
