Still remember his last broadcast in 1981 as CBS' lead anchor.

I was living in a dorm at U of Michigan.

The entire dorm TV lounge was full, with people stacked in the aisles.

I still remember his last words as anchor:

"I'm not leaving. I'll just be away on assignment. Dan Rather will be sitting in for me for the next few years"

Made me smile, then, and now.
