Hey I am looking for some cool ideas on running a smooth family life and running it like a business. I have 6 kids (10yrs old and younger) and I have been giving them chores and paying them accordingly. Of course we have fun time and all that but I try to each day spend some time cleaning and organizing and I even give them fun things to do like cook dinner etc.

1 week it worked well and I appointed my son to be the Butler. My oldest daughter was the head maid.

I write up little job reports and make sure they understand how well they did or why they didn't do so well.

I hold a daily family meeting to go over things. Lately I have been also calling them in one at a time to my office and we have some alone time so I can hear what they have to say without the other siblings in ear shot. I now pay them in private where before it was done in a group.

So... I wanted to see how creative I could be, with your help, to come up with more ideas, and structuring.

So what other things could I do??

This sounds fun! For them and yourself, looks you have a little army of kids too lol

I would have them do activity's that force them to think. Maybe have them set special themes for dinners. Teach each a trade so they can pay each other for their services.

Hey i like the idea of teaching them a trade. I know one of my kids tried to buy a toy from his sister. haha

I do writing reports. For instance, we just had a reunion so I had them all write down what they did at the reunion and what they liked best. There was swimming and lots of other things to talk about. Then when I called them individually to my office I would pay them for yesterday's work, and then go over their report and correct them. I would make sure they understood why I edited the stuff. Then tomorrow when I pay them I will give back the papers and have them rewrite the papers with the proper corrections. Then the day after when I pay them we will go over it again.

So I have

* Chores
* Writing Assignments
* Cooking/Meals

That seems to be it right now. I am sure I can come up with more ideas with everyone's help. With the cooking, we decide what to cook, and then I will have one chop up a veggie, another set the table, another prepare drinks, and so on.

If I can get them to cooperate when they get older I may be able to form a real family business but not sure what that would be at this point. I have started a thread here before trying to come up with ideas on family businesses. I think my kids would love the idea and start them off young. Of course if they get older and move on then that is their decision and I would never make them feel bad for not sticking with the business but it would be something to do. With 6 kids, I would assume at least 1 of them would stick around haha

Try watching the old movie "Yours, Mine, and Ours" Good luck, you have a tough task ahead of you.:cheers:
