Hi all,
I am hoping anyone can help answer some questions or guide me in the right direction. I recently began trying my hand at writing and inspiration hit me for a short story. I am finishing my first round of editing and while I know there are steps needed before I attempt to publish, I would like to weigh my options.
It would be nice to make money (obviously) from my story so I am considering Amazon eBooks. Has anyone had any experience selling creative nonfiction short stories with Amazon?
As a new writer I understand I'm a nobody in the literary world. With this thought in mind I've also considered submitting to literary magazines. The New Yorker or Harper's Magazine are high goals, but I know having a published story is a great way to establish a name for yourself. With this I ask if anyone has experience selling to literary magazines. I know the odds are VERY slim for The New Yorker (I guess they only publish one "unsolicited" short story a year). But how does it compare to selling on Amazon?
I suppose this brings me to my last questions for now. If I were able to sell to a literary magazine, would I still be able to sell on Amazon? For example, Harper's Magazine does a one issue nonexclusive publishing agreement, but the work must be unpublished elsewhere (I think...I read a few different submission FAQS). Is there the any conflicting publishing agreements if I took that route before going to Amazon?
Anything would be appreciated. Even some trolling I suppose...
Thank you!
