Not proposing a meetup of slow laners, but I attended one tonight.

My wife and I were hanging out with our church small group, and we talk a lot about what's going on in each others' lives. Almost everyone in the group is dealing with shit at their jobs.

- One lady has been given a notice that she'll be terminated by the end of the year. She's found a job that's stable but pays less than she's making now
- Another lady got shifted to a different department and has been looking for other jobs closer to her home town to no avail.
- One guy hates his current job and is looking for another one. He got an offer that will pay a lot less than he's making now for about six months. It'll go up to a little less than he's making now after that. If he does well and is lucky, he could (maybe) be up for a management position some time after that.
- Another guy is working at a college in administration, also teaching a couple of classes and not making much. He's working on his doctorate right now to try to raise his value and hopefully get a promotion.

Man, these are some of the best and kindest people I know, but the whole time they were talking tonight, it was just underscoring all of the points TMF made about people who are stuck in the slow lane. They just can't fathom any other mentality. Entrepreneurship is something that happens to geniuses or really lucky people. I've talked openly about my (thus far small) real estate investments, and they all think that's great and cool, but nobody thinks "hey, I could do that, too." And absolutely any of them could do that, or any one of a hundred other things if they just believed it was a possibility.

I wanted to have a long talk with all of them about even the few possibilities I personally know of which they could pursue to get a leg up. But the sad fact is, I believe most people are just not ready to hear it. On some level, it seems like people have to have a realization that something with the process is wrong before they're ready to find an answer.

Not much point to this post other than to provide a real-world example of slow lane thinking in action.
