Saw this on another forum. :eusa_clap:
I see many parallels between animals/nature and my RE investing business.
I live near a park and a trail through the woods goes by a beaver pond. This area used to be just swampy with a small creek flowing through but the beaver saw something special. The right set of characteristics led the beaver to see this as a good place to invest his time and put down roots to make it his own little slice of heaven. He proceeded to dam the creek and within 2 years he had flooded at least 3-4 acres in this valley. The beaver built a house and started a family who later helped him maintain what he had built. I noticed that he mainly cut down small to medium sized trees but on occasion tackle a really big tree. Some trees were for eating and some were strictly for building and maintaining the dam. Due to his persistence and tireless efforts with very little complaint i imagine, the amount of area under his influence grew until it met his needs. Then I noticed he wasn't really building the dam higher but was just maintaining it when it sprung the occasional leak after a heavy rain. Within about 3-4 years the beaver had turned this nasty swamp into his nirvana.
THIS IS A BEAVER PEOPLE. HE NEVER HAD ANY FORMAL SCHOOLING, NEVER SURFED THE INTERNET OR A DISCUSSION FORUM ON DAM BUILDING AND NEVER GOT A GOVT. BAILOUT WHEN A HEAVY RAIN WIPED OUT A SECTION OF HIS DAM.
Draw the parallels you want to but the beaver is a marvelous creature. His diligence in taking a particular set of circumstances and through small steps he builds on the work he did the day before. I think he had an idea of what he wanted when he started and wasn't side tracked by the occasion roadblocks (leaks in the dam) that presented themselves over the years. Once he built what he wanted it was a lot less work to maintain it and enjoy what he had built. He and his family built a nice home and surrounded it with a safe pond and monitored the water level to keep it at the right level.
I think the beavers success lies in that he followed a strategy that he stuck to in good times and bad knowing that all the small steps he was taking was bringing him closer to his goal.
