I'm in a niche that has batteries with led lights. My typical order size is around 500 units and I usually random check a few of them to make sure they are good.

Lately I've been receiving reviews that the product is dimmer and not consistent with the others. For example, if I sell two unit set of LED widget, one widget will be dimmer than the other.

Now that my order size will be around 1000 - 2000 units, I really need an inspection service. Does anyone have experience with one? What are your experiences?

I posted on the subject way back but the list is there. Sharing my lifetime experience in export/import. Product sourcing specialist.

There are others, and many local Chinese services are listed on Alibaba. As I posted much later that list is not up to date, recent charges quoted are much more than those stated on the listings, and you have no way of knowing if they are really working in your best interests or not. I would not use any of them.

Do you have an inspection sheet or comparative sample for your factory? If you set limits with the factory it gives you a leg up in the eventual discussion of why some are not up to your expectations. And always assume you will have issues with quality variances until you get into a rhythm with the factory and create expectations. Also how often are you placing orders? If it is infrequent enough maybe you could be there for the first production and approval. Then you could use that time to set your limits on features that are able to be tested and recorded. Might sound like a pain to do (and it is) but it helps in the long run if this is something you will be producing more frequently.

you need a guy in your supplier's city, do inspecting for you, pay him 5%--10% commission, everything is OK.
The question still remains - How do you know that the person doing the inspection for you is working totally in your interests or is he getting a cut that you don't know about? Is he recommending his cousin's company? Is he recommending the one that pays him the highest secret commission? (Illegal in Western countries.) Is he secretly buying the products himself and reselling them to you through a company that he owns?

This is why I recommend the long established companies in the list I mentioned above.

@exclusives88 I use a company called Trigo Inspection. They are extremely thorough in their inspection and charge $100 per 8 hour man-day. Depending how intricate your products are or how many you want them to inspect, you may need more or less time. They supplied me my report same day (37 page document with their comments, pictures, etc.). I used them for both mid-production and pre-shipment inspection. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions - their info is:

How many inspections have they done for you? Has the product quality been as required?

They have copied the name of a large international quality inspection service based in France, (specializing in automotive, aerospace, railway, agricultural machinery, trucks etc.) and such name copying is always a concern to me.

They are a very small organization but they offer their cut price services across China. Their website tells you little about them, they use a Hotmail email address as well as a website email address. They don't publish their location address. In the "Why Trigo" page they only offer as reasons their low price and that they claim to have 50+ inspectors, as well as providing reports within 24 hours anywhere in mainland China and Hong Kong.

I would be very wary about using such a service.

I don't think so, “he recommending his cousin's company or he recommending the one that pays him the highest secret commission, bala. bala...,” does he just has a cousin just has a company just make the just products you want to buy? are professional inspection company's employee "god"? Guarantee they 100% refuse all highest secret commission?
if you employ a right guy, All bad things will not happen, for him, this is a extra income, he will be happy。
We must believe in this world good person is more than bad person.:D

I should have put quotation marks around "cousin". I have spent a great amount of time in China since my first visit in 1978, and I quickly discovered that every business person has a "cousin" who runs a business. If a business person in China can't find someone he knows who can supply the required product, he is not good at business China style.

The reward might just be some very lavish entertainment, or being owed a favor, but whatever it is, the customer is the one who is not getting the independent ethical service he is paying for.

What is very common is for sourcing agents to quote the customer their buying price plus mark up, and then buy the product after the customer has agreed to their price and assurances about quality. The agent then either sets up a company or uses one he already has.
I am no novice at this. I have seen it happen many times.

I also know that secret commissions have been a problem for some of the old established inspection services, but they have woken up to that and there are now checks and balances in place to make it almost impossible.

How do we know how to find the "right guy"?
