what exactly do you mean? bubble? like a fad?

a technology can't be a bubble.

the dot com has two parts to it, the technology and the industry. the technology is still here with us! isn't it? the industry at one time had a bubble.

emerging industries experience bubbles when they usually come out, so green
energy is a technology and will be here with us for now and the future, when the industry hits traction there will be a bubble, then it will pop and stabilize. it's not a FAD, the industry is not in a bubble yet either.

There may be a funding bubble in alternative energy only time will tell if the technology can fill the gap between cost of traditional and alternative energy before taxpayers refuse to subsidize panels and wind farms. Germany is about to cut its feed-in tariffs for solar and it may be just a start. I do think areas of alternative energy can now be in a bubble and solar may be one of them. The reason it is so popular is because it is easy to install and subsidized. The current technology will need to increase in efficiency several times to even come close to being viable. As for industries in this area with potential I see energy use reduction technology as being a winner so things like LED lighting, manufacturing tech and efficient building materials. I see wind as a much better play then solar but I think geo thermal could be even better in both reduction of energy use at the user site and in large scale generation. If the electric car takes off I would think battery recycling would be a growth industry in a few years or so.
