Hope everyone is doing well! I just finished reading TMF a few days ago and started Unscripted yesterday. I have been trying to figure out how to set myself up to one day start a Fastlane medical practice.
Quick background: I'm a 24 y/o first-year medical student in the United States. After my training (7 years from now) I plan on opening a cash-based family medicine practice (direct primary care) in my hometown. The town itself has a population of ~30K people and is 10 minutes south of a city with a population of 400K. My overall vision is to provide stellar healthcare services to my patients (30-40 min visits, same-day appointments, discounted meds, etc) without having to worry about oversight from insurance companies.
My Question: Given that I'm nearly a decade away from being in a position to open my practice, what kind of skills should I focus on learning? Marketing? Coding & building websites? Or should I just focus on becoming the best doctor I can be and worry about business skills later? These questions have been burning in my head lately, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read and respond to this thread, I'm eager and excited to learn.
