Lost in the middle of a strange city in the middle of the night.

Cell phone service keeps cutting out, and the GPS spinning in circles.

Is it really us being uncomfortable? Or could it have been another feeling all along?

Excitement? Adventure?

Or maybe the very thing that gets us new results?

I had that experience in Germany once. Had to speak a foreign language I didn't speak at all and ended up getting a stranger to drive me home. One of many uncomfortable situations that became exciting as it progressed. In the end everything turned out just fine.

I applied that same excitement to jumping from planes back then too. Sitting on that C-130 with all those Soldiers next to you - head in their hands, praying to live til tomorrow...

Every jump was the same, and I was really scared when I first learned. Maybe my first 10 jumps were scary. Then I remembered I signed up for excitement and fun, and it's more useful to be excited than scared shitless and the emotions pretty much feel the same when you cut them to the core.

After that I got on every jump available and sometimes jumped 3 or 4 times a day. Miss those exciting times. Luckily more uncomfortable/exciting shit can always replace it.

Uncomfortable is only uncomfortable until you call it by another name - fun...exciting...living

The only major difference might be how well you respond in the moment to whatever comes your way.

Easier to dodge a truck when your head's not buried in sand!

(... that's important for your business!)

I'm on a 10 week business course, one morning a week.

Every week we're challenged to do one uncomfortable thing that will be good for our businesses.

Maybe it's to raise your prices?

Maybe it's to no longer do it for free?

Maybe it's to have a difficult conversation with an employee or a client?

Maybe it's to reach out to see if you can help someone?

The more uncomfortable it is, the more likely it will help you.

What will you do this week?

EDIT: More importantly, what uncomfortable thing DID you do this week?

(Title changed from WILL to DID.)

Yesterday my biggest client asked for extra commitment from me.

I used the opportunity to pitch an upsell. Haven't heard back since.

Either I lost my biggest client...or by tomorrow I get a $1000+/mo. raise.

It's a risk and It's scary.

But what if the worst that can happen does...and it's really not so bad?

Alternately, what if it works?

Either way, the dice are rolled. Now we play the game.

Well, the results are in, in case anyone wonders...

Just gave myself a $1000/mo raise for 3 extra hours of time.

(Unless I eliminate 3 hours of work elsewhere to make up for it. Then it was free.)

I wonder what kind of raise my comfortable friends got this year.

Mine is to actually promote my content outside of the forum.

I've created content but I'm happier just letting people find it.

It's like I've done 80% and balk at the last 20% of polishing what I have for wider consumption.

I've no idea why, but it's now been identified so is in my sniper sights.

I'm even uncomfortable writing that. Ha!

Mine is to be more mobile with my business. Get off my 3 computer screen PC, move everything I need to a MacBook Pro, burn the boats and hop on a one way flight to Europe and make it work when i get there.

Went to a toastmasters meeting last night. It's where you learn public speaking. Surprisingly it was very engaging and inclusive. At the end of the session I already built up tons of courage. Every fastlaner should attend one of these meetings.

They're free for the first few times I believe.

I hope we see more posts like this.

It's not enough to say what uncomfortable thing you'll do this week.

You actually have to do it. Then come back and let us know you did it.

Until you do it, you didn't overcome it, so you didn't get uncomfortable and you're still right where you are.

Nice work @Michał Kóska keep moving forward. Your comfort zone will grow as you do.

Signed up and started work in a co-working space today to increase my productivity and focus. Was too content working from home, in libraries and coffee shops. Dabbling ideas and wasting time. I know this will be much more productive as I can get an early start as well.

Though I have no idea why... While going to sign-up, I didn't feel comfortable at all. Thoughts like this were running through my mind:

"What if I'm just wasting my time and money travelling there everyday"
"Am I good enough? What if I fail at my idea? What if I make less than I spend on it? "
"Crap. Now that I'm paying for this. I really do need to work seriously and stay focused."

Logically speaking, the money I spent on the month's membership of the co-working space is absolutely nothing. But hey, we're creatures of emotion, not logic. Finding it crucial that we find the resistance and run towards it. Something I'm working on doing everyday....

Call a lawyer to start working on necessary licensing. It is the start of a long, expensive process so I have been putting it off.

Done. Appointment made for consultation.

Have been doing this a lot more lately, but I am planning to record myself for my YouTube channel. I tend to do more "record my screen" type videos but always shy away from being ON camera. Gonna get that out of the way :)

Same here. Recording video/audio is a huge mental block for me! Good luck!

Thread title changed from:

to

"What uncomfortable thing DID you do this week?"

Remember, this is NOT an accountability thread. IMO, if you need accountability to move forward then your why isn't strong enough.

Use this thread to celebrate progress and inspire others.

It's funny to see this post now. I started doing something I'm super uncomfortable with today, which is appearing in my videos in person, instead of hiding behind presentations and graphics.

I've known that I should be doing it, but I was terrified of it. Turns out, it's not that bad. And I'm sure I'll see better results because of it.

So, you are 100% right. Step outside the box. It's nice out here :)

Excellent skill to pick up. I was a raised a Jehovahs witness and was till my early twenties. the only good thing I gained from it was public speaking. Used to give sermons in front of crowds of 10,000 or more. Definitely memorable

My uncomfortable thing for the week has been asking for advice and guidance. I'd usually shy away from it, not because I think I know better, far from it! I've just always been a sucker for learning and doing things independently (ie 'the harder way') Tomorrow or next week's will be approaching a relatively large company for some business

I drove 6 hours round trip to pick up a piece of equipment that I bought on ebay, in a truck that is starting to make me a bit nervous about long hauls with freight. That was a bit nerve wracking...not knowing if I'd be stuck on the side of the road (with the equipment to shield from the weather), but it worked out.

It was great deal though on a piece of equipment that I need.

@Andy Black - At first I was going to say "Wake up", but then I saw "for your business" , ha

This may not sound like much to some, but I did something uncomfortable this week:

I hate driving in large cities with bad traffic, and will do almost anything to avoid rush hour traffic or major freeways, etc.

There was someone I wanted to see and hopefully meet for networking purposes (semi-public figure who was a stranger to me) that was going to be 'downtown' in one of the largest cities in the United States, an hour away from where I was, AND it was at one of the worst possible times for driving in traffic - 6pm. Ugh.

I thought of every excuse possible not to go:
  1. I'm too tired
  2. He probably won't be there anyway
  3. I feel like I'm getting sick. May be the flu
  4. It's rush hour traffic. This will be a nightmare
  5. I'm an hour away. It's too far
  6. I might have a flat tire if I drive that far in this heat
  7. I have to get dressed up. It will take too long.
  8. I might have a car accident
  9. What's the point. It's a waste of time.

By the time I had thought of all this I was already late. lol

BUT - I actually got dressed up nicely, got in my hot car, and drove in major traffic all the way to this city center. Took me an hour, and yes, I was late, but I did it!

I am also usually uncomfortable sitting on the front row of anything, but I did that too.

.....and I did get to interact with my target. ;)
