What would you tell your 18 or 25 year old self?

For you 25 yr old+ guys out there, if you could go back in time, and tell your 25 year old self something, what would you say?

I would tell myself to just f*ing decide on something and pursue that one thing and get really good at it. Dedicate a few years to pursuing that thing (skill, production) in order to really understand it.

I've spent the past twenty years being a jack of all trades, mastering none of them. The closest I have to mastery is being a master administrator for an Norwegian archive program (which my employer will no longer use in a couple of years).


Now in truth, I would avoid changing anything as doing so would prevent me from having the son I have today, the sweetest, happiest boy I could ever dream of having.

So you have a smattering of experience and education. Hone in on the part you like and are good at. All that diversity will give you a leg up on your next gig. I have learned that nothing I have done in the past or my education needs to go to waste. It all means something. I use bits and parts of it every day. I'm not living the life I planned or went to school for... BUT, I'm living every day to the fullest as though it was my last one on earth. I have thrown my heart over the wall and I'm reaching for that star every day. I've lived more than most people around me -- and I'm growing old now. I'm OK with that. I know that no one knows where we'll end up or how life's twists and turns will come around. I'm telling you to just lean into today and make it your best!
