Hi everyone!
It's great to be here, meeting all of you awesome and helpful people.
This intro is certainly overdue, as I consider myself a lurker on most platforms unless I feel I can bring some value. I read somewhere that being active and engaging will get the best result, so my introduction here is me trying.
The Sidewalk
I was pretty much born and raised as a sidewalker. Go to school, get a job. I never really excelled in school, that was until I actually found something I enjoyed working with. Studied to become an IT Engineer - or rather a Data Technician specializing in infrastructure. From then on, I worked on my skills and stayed open to new jobs that pay better and provide great benefits. My transition to the Slowlane began when the pandemic hit, and I had just started a new job a few months prior. The new company had to lay off a big chunk of employees, and of course, I got nervous, since I was the last person to join in my specific office. This led me to read Rich Dad Poor Dad - and effectively moved me to the Slowlane. (or the slowlane mindset I guess)
The Slowlane
At this point in my life - I had a nice paying job, a fiancee, and 2 young children. This was still during the pandemic, and I dodged the layoff bullet. However, my mind was racing in terms of multiple income streams. I stumbled upon self-publishing, pushed by the Rich Dad Poor Dad website, so I thought it had some credibility behind it, and I paid for the very expensive course. I probably spent around 1.5 years trying out the self-publishing gig, paying ghostwriters and editors, etc. I never really got off the ground, but I sure did spend a lot of money trying a lot of different things to sell more books. When I realized that my time spent didn't really pay off, and I didn't enjoy that business either, I pulled the plug and basically started putting spare cash in ETFs until something better came along.
From here, I got into my head that what I do every day, is my biggest asset in terms of making money. So I could raise my intrinsic value by gaining new skills and certifications and getting a better-paying job. That's when I stumbled upon a summary or "blink" of The Millionaire Fastlane and decided to read the actual book. At this point, I'm looking for needs to fill. I'm 100% sure that my business should be an online business. I'm not the best coder, but I know infrastructure, and I consider myself a Linux specialist, and a lifelong learner.
I'm hoping to learn lots and gain inspiration from this forum, and of course, provide value for others here as well.
My biggest hurdle at this point is probably time - If I'm lucky, I can spend around 2 hours every evening, minus time spent on fitness and date nights with the fiancee.
