I feel like my current position is a cross between the $3k to $1 million thread and finding the right entrepreneurial premise. I have alot in common with the person Russ created the 15 months thread for because I have $4,000 to work with and I'm also 17.
I've made it a goal of mine to find a business that solves a problem that I can pull the trigger on in the coming weeks. I literally have been sitting at home and just thinking about different ways I can make an e-business that can be a solution to someone's problem. I'm considering all possibilities: creating a product, selling an existing product, selling a service, offering a free service, business to business, consumer business and everything in between. I've realized that it's not just more profitable to fill a need but also easier to market it.
Last night I went to a bon fire with a bunch of my friends and I asked all of them what problems they had. Some had questions and others had statements, but I was just trying to find something to work with and to brainstorm ideas off of. Here were the most popular:
- I want to make more money
- I want to meet more girls
- I want to be happier/more self confident
- I want to save money on gas
Of course this is just a poll of about six or seven people, but it's the foundation I'm going to work on.
While I was watching the Yankee game tonight, I just thought about the potential businesses I could start but I almost felt like I had writers block. For example, I printed a sheet with "I want to meet more girls" and just jotted ideas down. The farthest I got was "dating site" and my brain juices stopped. Dating sites are saturated. And as Peter would say, it's not about the idea but the people - which is true. But I don't think I could make a better dating site than the ones already in place.
Then I got into "I want to save money on gas" and I got even more stuck. I felt like there really wasn't anything I could do with an e-business that could solve this. For the people who wanted to make more money, I would just refer to them to the fastlane forums and other finance books. The subject of wanting to be happier/more self confident is REALLY broad. I think people find happiness from so many different things that other people wouldn't even care about.
So here's my question to the fastlane:
How can I take a problem I've found and create an online business that would solve it? I'm dealing with pretty large topics which have made it difficult on me. But I also think if I could brainstorm a solution that my business would have a huge growth potential. Should I narrow my search to product base, service base or advertising (free information) based ideas to make it easier to create different business concepts?
Thank you for your help!
