Hey Everyone,
I wanted to share this today. It is something that I have used to get in touch with some VIP's in organizations and get them to hear what you have to say.
You can use this to attempt to contact Venture Capitalists, Potential Large Clients, Potential Large JV Partners, etc. Are You ready?
Okay so here we go,
First off you have to have a LinkedIn free account. Now before you turn around and leave this thread because you think you know what I'm talking about, just read the whole thing first.
I am going to use the example of an organization right now. Say Google. Say that I've discovered the next big thing in the search engine industry (whatever that may be 🙄) and it will help them market and I want them to hear about it.
So I want to get in touch with Google's marketing department.
STEP 1: Go on LinkedIn and Start a New Search
STEP 2: Okay, so we see all of these wonderful, lucky people that are just so happy to be working at Google. Now Click on one of their profiles to view their profile.
DANG!!!No contact info. After all, these guys work at Google. Their probably some of the richest people in the world! It's impossible to get in touch with them right? Hahaha WRONG!! Just doing a normal search for people, all of their profiles will come up like this, with no info on it. Most people will stop there and say "Oh well, can't get in touch with them." But what you have to do is go over to the similar profiles.
Part of the secret is, when you click on these, you weren't searching for them, so the LinkedIn site will let you see their profile. Choose one that holds a position at the organization and click on their profile.
STEP 3: Woah! This is Awesome! I am looking at Google's director of marketing's profile right now. It's almost like I personally know him!
Now you can just click "Connect" or "Send Message" right? HA! No way LinkedIn is going to let you do that unless you're paying them at least 30 dollars a month. And then Still you can only send a total of 3 Messages PER MONTH to people that you don't know!!! That's a Joke! But hope isn't lost yet! Let's dig a little deeper. (BTW this whole guide complies to LinkedIn's TOS, in case you were wondering)
STEP 4: Scroll down the page a little farther and see what groups the person is a part of. Click on the Join link to Join a group. Not all groups will be public, but chances are the person is part of at least one. Even Google's director of marketing is.
Score! I'm now part of the same group as the guy that I want to contact.
Now Just Click the Members Link at the top to go to the page.
STEP 5: Now it is just time to send the message to who you want to get in touch with, and connect with them.
And that's how it is done!!
QUICK TIPS: Do Not abuse this! Only send messages to people you don't know if you are very serious about what you are doing and will not waste their time. Don't Spam them and don't use links or anything in your first message.
Don't always try to get in touch with the biggest guys first. It will actually be a lot more effective in most situations if you try to get in touch with someone a little lower on the chain. Like Mid upper management positions. EX: Getting in touch with say the Jr. VP. of regional marketing is going to be a lot easier than getting in touch with the director of marketing. They're not as "Famous" so to speak, but you're still in touch with their marketing department.
When writing your message a good thing to do is something along the lines of "Hi blah blah blah saw you worked at google, Blah Blah Blah, Trying to get in touch with marketing, *Brief Idea that you have* do you think this is a good idea? Do you think you could put me in touch with who I should talk to about this?"
Now don't criticize me on that one. There are plenty of methods that people teach on cold emailing/messaging. That's not what this thread was about. But in fact, this message is not as cold because you can say that you are members of the same group. Use this to get in touch with VC's, partners anyone!!!
Check this thread by "workingtitle" for some great advice and experience on how to write a cold email!

Anyway that took a lot longer than I expected!
I really hope this helps you guys, and good luck!!!
