So, taking some inspiration from a GOLD thread posted by Lex, I decided to follow in his footsteps and launch an online digital products ecommerce store with the aim of growing a steady 2-3k per month stream of income, primarily focusing on google ads to start.
What I've done so far:
- Found a product that I think can work and has some proven demand (etsy etc.)
- Created the product myself (spent a little longer than had hoped as new to some programmes)
- Purchased domain from name cheap and set up shopify store (chose over WordPress as lower learning curve)
- Added 2 products, and a bundle pack containing all of my products (25 in total)
- Installed Apps to allow for digital downloads to take place
- Set up email for my domain (used free plan on zoho)
- Set up payment providers to allow for money in
- Set up google analytics, linked to shopify site
- Set up google ads account - using a spend 400 get 400 offer
- Created first ad - ad is set up following Andy's teachings (start selling at the final point, the sale)
- Ad linked directly to products page with clear headings indicating what I am selling
- Started running Ads with a £10 / day budget with a £1 max bid price
All of this was completed in 1 month.
Current stats:
- Ads been running for 1 day
- So far: 18 clicks, CTR: 9%, £0.78 CPC and around 18 pounds spent.
- No conversions
- Currently waiting for 200 clicks to draw any theories.
Next Steps
- Will wait for 200 clicks to assess situation
- Will add more individual products in the meantime to flesh out the store (only did 2 initially to save time and get the store running)
What have I learnt so far?:
- Work quicker. The quicker I work, the quicker I can succeed or fail. Fail fast
- That my idea needs a little time to asses viability - need more patience
- Learnt how to set up online stores in a professional way
- Learnt how to run google ads (at a beginners level)
Look forward to keeping you all updated.
Any advice, comments, tips or praises - by all means comment away! the more the merrier!
Ash.
