When it comes to health there’s the potential for people to make awful decisions that can cause long term harm. I think the host has some responsibility for due diligence on his guests. If he is going to give them a voice he should have done enough research to show them up for being a crackpot and point out the flaws in their arguments. Letting people make false health claims is wildly irresponsible. With all due respect, how does it cross a line for a podcast host to have guests sharing opposite views? I'm confused why this is a problem.
If some podcast host had a series of guests who all held opposite religious views, there wouldn't be anything wrong with that. Why is it different with health?
For example, there was a debate recently between Wes Huff and Billy Carson (which I found very entertaining), where Billy Carson argued that Jesus's crucifixion didn't happen and Wes Huff gave Billy Carson a bit of a schooling on the evidence Billy was relying on.
Billy Carson had been on multiple podcasts making the claim that Jesus wasn't crucified. He was on Joe Rogan. He was on Patrick Bet David. He was on other big-name podcasts.
Who cares?
Does that reflect badly on Joe Rogan and PBD?
Just because Billy Carson has some egg on his face and has been shown to be mistaken on some of his claims, does that really do anything other than embarrass the GUEST? I mean, yeah, some people believed what Billy said and didn't hear the rebuttal. Maybe some of those people walked away from Christianity and that affected their lives. But are we really going to put that onto the podcast host?
I'm not seeing why it would be different for health.
Isn't it the nature of the scientific method to permit the pursuit of facts? When you let one person stand up and say "eggs are bad for you" and then someone else comes along and says "eggs are good for you," isn't that very disagreement the thing that prompts people to examine their own conclusions and see if their evidence is adequate?
"Let truth and falsehood grapple.
Who ever knew truth put to the worse
In a free and open encounter?"
- John Milton
I'm concerned that we're in a period in history where the focus is on suppressing the dialogue from happening in the first place (even though some views might be wrong) rather than on letting people with different views present their facts and evidence and then letting people draw their own conclusions. Let the crackpot quack guests talk. People can choose not to listen, or they can choose to listen and disagree. Who cares if Diary of a CEO lets them have a voice?
We’re not talking about science here, these are people spouting nonsense who only reach their “conclusion” so they can be controversial and get attention.
I wouldn’t go as far as banning Steven Bartlett, but I’m glad people are finally pointing out that his show is gibberish.
