You know how you always hear these stories of waking up in the middle of the night because you have an idea for your business? Well, I woke up in the middle of the night and had an idea for YOUR business.
Essentially, I think if your brother wants to go through with this, instead of starting with a website, he should go with the concierge MVP.
He should figure out who his target market it, then go out looking for at least one person who would buy in his area. Ask them exactly what they want in a cereal, then find someplace like winco that will give him all the sugars, cereals, and dried fruits he needs in bulk. Get a manual order by asking the person what they want, and give it to them in person.
There's a story in the lean startup about a company called Food on Table that did this same thing. They started out individually going to each person, and getting all the stuff manually, then automated little bits at a time as they scaled. I think if your brother wants to do this business, this is the way for him to go.
