Of course you’re attached to a harness and rope, but the fear of height still kicks in hard!

No joke. My fear of heights hits at completely random times which isn't great for climbing. When I lived in Colorado, we were doing an easy face with our kids. Something like 30 - 40 meters. Too much work to climb all the way, but it was an easy hike to the top and really fun to rappel back down.

Getting over the edge was a little awkward. You had to kind of jump over a lip to get both feet planted on the face, get in position and start the rappel. The first time I jumped - nothing happened. I was still standing on top confused for a couple of seconds before realizing my brain had completely freaked out and aborted. So weird. Bad brain.

I recently went into my photo album and scrolled all the way to the start of the year.

It’s crazy, just to see how I changed over the year.

Long hair, to buzz cut, to line up, to fringe, to middle part, to crew cut.

Video games and sugar, to sunlight, meditation, to the gym and praying.

From my friend group to the FF I cried, I laughed, I won

But most importantly I learnt and made memories

@MJ DeMarco, did you get the Einstein Relief from Bill? I checked out the link you shared, and that’s pretty awesome about how rare his art form is. It looks like Android Jones does some legit work, too. I see you have some of his pieces.

Yea, bought it from the gallery in Las Vegas.

Check that, I bought it from the gallery, but the artist has to custom make it. I took about 4 months.

Nice! One thing I’ve learned quickly with my drawings is the difference between people who truly appreciate the process of art and those who have no clue.

Since people have been sharing the finished drawings they’ve commissioned from me, I’ve had numerous people reach out about paying to have various drawings done. Well, when I quote them the price, some of them ghost me, lol. I guess they think a 20-50 hour realistic drawing should be $50. Anyway, I don’t even feel bad about what I’m quoting anymore. If they see the value and understand what I put into it, then they’ll pay it. If not? Thats fine, too.

This is a Kershaw Chive knife that I engraved by hand (no lasers) and finished at the end of 2023. I started engraving in 2022 but haven't been able to devote much time to it. I am determined to devote more time to it this year.

Good day FLF friends,

Some time since my last post. Had a lot going on personally, but love to share this with you all. My first ‘Dutch winter skip’. Spending it on Gran Canaria.

Thanks @MJ DeMarco, last January I read your book for the first time and it inspired me to ‘just book’. One of my best decisions of 2023.

I’m staying here until spring. After a week of vacation here I feel already so energized to get back at my projects.

Just finished making this concrete clock for my brother in law (he's a civil engineer). Designed a 2 piece mold and 3D printed it. I had to destroy the mold to get the concrete out so thankfully it came out good enough on the first try

No, I'm not selling them. This is the first and probably last I will make. The process could definitely be refined so that they were easier to make though.

Anyways I'm running things from Sayulita Mexico right now.

Here is my schedule:

9am, wake up, coffee and breakfast and do a little admin systems work
image0.jpeg

11am: go surf for dos horas then shower

View attachment Video.mov

2pm: dos tacos y uno mojito. Practice my spanish with the waitresses. "Te pareces a mi novia, muy bonita"

3pm: bit more work.

image0 (2).jpeg

4pm: siesta

6pm: Jiu Jitsu class.

7pm: dinner. mas tacos. mas mojitos.

8pm siesta. or some reading.

10pm: go party with the other gringos

1am: zzzz

Walk everywhere, talk to everyone, try new places, learn some spanish, no firm plans, no return flight yet.

The flight was $200. I spend about $80 a day on everything here including food, drinks, lodging, surfing, etc.

So if you have a remote business and make 3-4k a month....might be the move.

I love how balanced and diverse Johnny’s life is

Mine is currently like exercise/weights (30min daily) -> work -> eat + watch movie with fiancee -> read/study/plan -> sleep. I’d say sleep and work are 80%+ of the day.

The interesting thing is that I don’t think my life would be different if I were a billionaire. I’d find parties, trying new stuff, adventures to be too tiring. And I’m not naturally drawn to those things.

If it wasn’t for work I’d probably spend my time not knowing what to do just starring at the ceiling. I find it impossible to just relax or have fun

And you shouldn't!
Your art is amazing!

And if some don't get it, or can't afford it, that's ok.
There's a lot of those who do, and who can.

Dude, how are you not famous yet?

When I hear an awesome tune,
often it inspires me to come up with lyrics and topline melody.

But this song, you know what it did?
It shut me up. I just wanted to listen to it.

And it painted pictures for me.

I think you could make a fabulous audio visual show. Like a musical.
Or a concert with an orchestra. Have you thought about it?

PS. Perfect DAW choice;)

Next year January Gran Canaria remotely?

✅ Spanish practice
✅ Siesta
✅ Fast internet
✅ 20-25 degrees Celsius everyday
✅ Parties on and off the island
✅ Surfing/ kite surfing

The only thing would possibly be the time difference with your business.

Heck, who knows we can make it into a summit as well.

That's good marketing, but we'll need to add the following to the list of benefits:

Dude, how are you not famous yet?

Thanks! Well... send the YouTube link to a few of your friends and you can help me along!

I'm following the "So Good They Can't Ignore You" principle, and trying to improve and push myself with each piece I do. Eventually I'll reach the point of people feeling compelled to share what I'm doing and become advocates, but until that time, I have to keep working away at it. And once I reach that point, I'll have to work 10x smarter.

I think you could make a fabulous audio visual show. Like a musical.
Or a concert with an orchestra. Have you thought about it?

I've done a couple of short pieces for guitar and orchestra:
And I'm currently finishing my first sonata-form piece (nearly finished the sketch for the second movement today), which is for two guitars, bass, drums and strings. I'm going to do it as a Beethoven-esque sonata, as a collection of several pieces. Hopefully by the time that's finished (end of this year), my teaching info business will have made enough cash that I can drop some $$$ on recording with a string orchestra and band, and make an awesome video of it all. Run that video as an ad and sell a CD / tab book / downloads.

Then we'll see if I can make back any of the $10k that it cost to fulfill that particular teenage fantasy

I can already feel my limbs go numb just by the idea of having to jump over a lip to start a descent. Especially at that height...

My fear of heights usually gets a hold of me once I move quite slowly and my brain gets time to think. All of a sudden I'm too aware of what's beneath me and my hands get sweaty. Not ideal for climbing lol...

Just got back from winter sports in Austria! Here are some of the views:

image1(4).jpeg
image2(1).jpeg
image0(8).jpeg

It's been quite some time since I've done some decent snowboarding, but here's a video of a quick run I did in the park.

View attachment trim.DBB0DF95-20F1-43A7-83D5-EB5E86DD9516.MOV

Turns out I still had some moves imprinted in my muscle memory (it's been 8 years since I've last competed). I thought it would be a fun challenge to see how far I can come in the qualification round of an upcoming snowboard competition. I'll still have to train for a couple of months, but it's definitely on my to-do list for this year.

How do you find the pressure at the depth? I freedived in a dive tank years ago, I think it got to about 10-12m deep and I remember feeling the pressure. I can't imagine what 32m is like.

If we're posting stuff we do...

I'm not as cool, but I've spent the last 2 years learning the saxophone. I love that damn instrument so much.

Please never stop doing what you're doing.

Kudos and cheers.

But thanks! Music is a get rich or die trying choice for me.

And good luck with learning saxophone, maybe one day you can be this guy:

Sweet! I played the sax (baritone and alto) a lot when I was in school. Jazz band was awesome. I went to a live jazz show recently and it made me want to start playing again. I still have my alto so I gotta bust it out.

What kind of stuff are you playing?

Thanks! I used a flat graver to remove material and create depth. The background was then stippled and blackened (I use Rustoleum flat black but there are plenty of alternatives).
