Hello. To elaborate on my question...
I used to blog A LOT a long time ago with a few thousand article views per day in the end, it was solely for fun and didn't care about the amount of money I was taking in, it was a mental health blog. I dabbled with affiliate marketing a little bit by sharing book links etc from Amazon and that was fun. Looking to start a new blog again but with the intention of it being a side gig that brings in a small source of income and would like to attempt to grow it as much as I think I can. I am confident when it comes to creating content, especially in written format and I plan to start an entirely new blog, not continue on from the previous. This will be from scratch again and in a different industry, probably starting with a Wordpress blog template and buying a domain.
Obviously there are many things to look into first such as market research but I've already done this side of things and fairly confident in attracting a decent audience (but lets see), but I'm naive when it comes to how I might actually try and make some money out of this.
I noticed people placing importance of earnings per thousand visitors (is this a good metric to go by and why?) and I have also noticed running ads can be an option as well as affiliate marketing. Am I missing anything else? And is there anything I should learn about along the way such as SEO or keyword optimisation, maybe adsense?
I am taking a "customer-first" approach to this blog and the readers will be at the heart of what I'm doing, this is what led to my previous blog having a fairly low bounce rate and consistent readers. But this time round I would like to try and make some money on the side, I do want to prepare myself as much as possible before jumping in. Anything you feel that is crucial to know, please post, I'm all ears. I say its a side gig overall because as of right now I do not see how I could scale it to be something that brings in the equivalent of a full-time income (too early to know yet I think).
Any resources you can think of would be amazing. I am currently doing a course by a guy who is a professor at Stanford University which seems very good when it comes to understanding the overall creation of a business. I am also about to take an open university course surrounding digital marketing.
Thank you for reading this.
