Counties are out of control with their BS. I was going to buy a place from a retiring couple in a different county. They (County) demanded that I build a sidewalk with wheelchair rails and ramps from one section of unbuildable swamp to another, in case anyone in a wheelchair rolled out of the swamp and needed to get to the other swamp. They also demanded that I drill under a 6 lane highway with extra wide median, to connect to county water and sewer on the other side... despite the property being in the boon docks and having well and septic. This all added 600k+ to the cost, and made the property unusable. Poor couple won't be retiring if anyone needs to change the use of that one.This is F'd up.
If you have a change of use in a business location or new construction, etc. in St. Louis County, MO, for you to get a business license, you have to put in recharging stations proportional to the number of parking spots. So if you're a used book store following a barber shop, you're on the hook.
Amazing.
There's a bill to force the local government to pay for it in those cases. Nobody should pay for it. This should be like gas stations. If someone operates them, then they should pay. The cost to small business is crazy. The bill for the taxpayer if it goes through is also crazy.
Concerns sparking over St. Louis electric vehicle charging stations

Another property, they demanded that I put in a public elevator to reach a 300sf upstairs storage room ( guess that goes down to 200sf once you account for the elevator?!). I said, nobody will be going up there, it's not public. Their response? "Well, the next owner might use it as a public space! So you have to put in an elevator! Hu hyuk!" That same property, they wanted me to put a double-wide sidewalk for two wheelchairs simultaneously, in case people from a nearby ALF wanted to come for a visit, while others were simultaneously leaving. That didn't leave enough room for CARS to get to the property, which I pointed out. Their response? "Well, you can get an easement from one of the properties next door! If you pay them enough, they'll let you bulldoze their wall and use their parking lot as part of your access! Hu hyuk!"
These people are maniacs high on their own fumes. The best they deserve is to live out their lives in an asylum for the criminally idiotic.
