I think this is simplistic.

Open source advocates see their open source code taken by for profit entities and then attempt to be control, without giving anything back to the original open source source.

This battle is happening in other venues, with cursor AI being another example I can think of.

WordPress, being so big, is the highest profile example.

At its core, this is a fight for the spirit of the Internet. Collaborative vs closed/walled gardens.
