My pet peeve about people traveling overseas, and one that makes me want to whack their heads, are those people who've been living in the city/urban area/concrete jungle all their lives, and then go overseas to places like Tokyo, London, Singapore, New York etc. I would kick them into the sea if I could.

2 months ago I went on vacation with 4 others. Not a single one of us posted a single pic of the trip. We also met 3 girls on the trip and are now FB friends. None of the 3 girls posted a single pic either! I am actually kind of shocked.

If you enjoyed that, you might get a kick out of the "Via Ferrata" routes in the Alps. But that requires a flight

I'm surprised by how many here also lean towards disliking traveling. I've slowly been opening up to it these past few years, but I am actually NOT bored of my hometown or the people here.

Plus, we go through all four seasons here. We have beaches and beautiful mountains. I like my country.

And while I don't mean to brag (and this DEFINITELY isn't the popular opinion across my fellow countrymen), at this point, I don't think there's any country out there that's better to live in than my own (as long as you break out of the system and make more than the average).

I used to dream about going to the U.S. and becoming an American citizen, but honestly, I feel like America today is a shadow of its former (the 1940s-1980s) self.

I think I speak for everyone when I say The West has gone to shit. And, to me, The East has always been shit. So I've just accepted that I'm EXACTLY where I should be.

"Typically the guy on stage telling you to follow your passion made his billions in iron ore smelting" lol.

Solid point about the billionaires spewing their "follow your passion" BS advice.

From an article on the guy:

Galloway, who sold his company L2, Inc., reportedly for over $130 million, tells CNBC Make It.

"L2 is a digital innovation company providing research, curated events and targeted consulting engagements for brands."

Definitely wasn't a passion business, either.

Perhaps they should have emphasized the fact that their passion is related to amassing great power and influence, not "making a lot of money" or uploading selfies in a Lamborghini to impress their depressed Instagram followers.

I’ve definitely got my eye on Bulgaria as a place to live. It seems amazing.

I think the next bit of travelling I will do is to Bulgaria to see what it’s like.

Residents can concealed carry as well, right?

I am seeing more and more English-speaking people moving to live here and they seem to be having fun.

Residents can concealed carry as well, right?

Yeah, but you'd need a permit. I had thought about getting one but reconsidered since firearms aren't commonplace here. In fact, you can pull a knife on the police here and they'll try to pepper spray/taze you or beat the shit out of you, but not kill you. Despite this, we're considered a "police state" with one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) number of police forces per capita in Europe.

Also, one drawback to Bulgaria (especially for Americans) is that we don't really have weapons at home. And if someone invades our property (with the intent to steal) and we killed them, we'd be going to prison (unless proven it was in self-defense).

For business, Bulgaria is awesome. Income tax is just 10% and I pay approx. 300-350 BGN ($140-180) for insurance + accountant tax per month to keep my company afloat. And while inflation has been ramping up, the USD is pretty much equal to the Euro, which is approx 1.95 BGN, so whatever I make in dollars, I end up withdrawing double that.

Traveling and experiencing are two different things.

I worked remotely and saw "travelers" often in the hotspots in Eastern/Northern europe. They get off the plane with their huge backpacks, loud speech, phone guiding them to their hostel or airbnb only to spend the day in all the tourists hotspots.

This further became a thing to me when I met people at hostels. 80% of what they did was drink, drink and drink. Go to the same clubs all the tourists go to. Socialize only with other tourists and if they're guys try to pick up local "sloots".

That's what most people consider traveling. As a remote worker I was a weird hybrid. I too a tourist but also lived like a local a bit in the sense of I lived there while working. I learned "experiencing" a place is completely different. Hanging out with locals actually in their homes, going to local stores, going to the areas locals shop at, learn the language etc etc. Traveling imo is supposed to be about changing your perspective on things or experiencing another reality. Not going to old town(which all look the same in Europe mostly) taking pics, taking selfies alone or with other tourists in the Norwegian mountains or being a sexpat.

So yes, most 'travelers' make 'travelling' overrated. Can guarantee you if you ask most people about their trip overseas most wont say they spent time with a local family, tried to learn the language or went to local pub/bar every weekend to hear the woes and tribulations of what people who make up that country are actually going through.

Edit: Also "I have to deal with other people while traveling that sucks!" is part of the problem IMO. Seems some people want a virtual reality machine where they put on a headset and are transported to the beaches of Rio without a single soul in sight. Signs of how our modern way of thinking and living has truly bred isolation and even narcissism to a extent.

Also I think this is heavily age based. Of course if you lived it up and/or already did this when younger you wont enjoy it as much. Especially if you have kids and other people you have to pay for. I probably wouldn't either. But for those that havent or are younger we view it much differently.

I just have to mention this somewhere. Solar flares and solar storms send out blasts of microwave and radio energy, as well as other frequencies. This is caused by electrons being accelerated in a magnetic field, with higher field strength correlating to higher energy frequency.

Here's just a coincidental thing then. In 2003, the news was all about the biggest solar flare ever recorded at the time. Soon after, Europe experienced the 2003 European Heat Wave.

This year we're talking about the "fiery canyon" solar storm, though with short news cycles and clickbait, it seems like that was ages ago. Solar storms are the aftermath of solar flares. So here we sit with very similar solar conditions to June-July 2003, and what do we have once again? Is it another heat wave in Europe?

Solar activity and the corresponding energy emissions have increased since 1715; from 1650 to 1715 astronomers recorded no sunspots, even though they were looking for them and knew how to spot them. That period is observed to be the low point in cyclical solar activity. The same period is the dead center, and coldest part, of Europe's "Little Ice Age."

I assume this would be uncomfortable to talk about in some circles... the coincidences pile up enough, and it threatens a narrative about petroleum, or the interests of someone whose career is based on solely human causality in rising average temperatures. But really, shouldn't someone look at these correlations, occasionally? If nothing else, we might want to do fire mitigation or tune up the air conditioners after a major solar event, before it catches us off guard.

We have all these specialists like solar astronomers and climate scientists, and I sometimes wonder if they talk to each other.

I doubt it. Mega Corps and government powers are not funneling billions of dollars into astronomer's pockets like they are climate "scientists". Solar could be causing 100% of global weather change in a "water is wet" sort of obvious way and you would still not hear about it and it would be actively fought against.

I recently read something that described something similar. I guess the planets in our solar system are heating up as well. Hard to explain that based on human emissions! I found it interesting and would like to read more on the subject.

If you want to get out of scripted, cliche, boring ‘travel’, go do something with ‘the adventurists’.

Took a rickshaw 2000 miles across India in January of 2020.
Flipped it and ended up in the hospital

Got attacked by monkeys the next morning

Broken down and needed to get a new engine ($40 lol)

New experiences every single day. Had an absolute blast trying not to die.

This is why Americans don't really need to travel outside of America - if your main concern is the "feel" of the place you travel to, America has it all. You can go from the Grand Canyon to NYC, to the changing colored leaves of New England in the fall, to the tropical beaches of Destin Florida, to the snowy mountains of Vail, Colorado, to the Cacti in New Mexico, to the Rainforest in Washington...

Ancient settlements, European buildings on the east coast, modern/high tech areas, the tropics, the snowy mountains, wildlife, desert, rivers, hunting/fishing... Every kind of food and culture from all over the world...

RANT:

Travelling is overrated.

9-5 peeps "travelling" is not really travelling.

Most people travel because others travel and it's become sort of a societal dogma.

Travel is a cringe word IMO.

Vacation is also a cringe word IMO.

Is time-constricted (9-5 peeps) travelling/vacation really worth it? (no IMO).

Sorry for the rant.
I feel that it depends.

I think traveling is meaningful when you actually learn new thing, exposed to new visual data, and engage in meaningful activity.

I used to sign up to local gym to know friends and added them on facebook, when I traveled to Brisbane Australia. I also talked to the gym owner and understand how the franchise work.

I think personally I like it the best when it is like “mba lesson” on foot. You can network and learn things that you cannot do it with simple google searches.

I focus a lot on observing things related to economics and business. Observe the supermarket item prices. Talk to local realtor on interest rate and rental yield, even I have zero intention of investing in Australian real estate.

Chatting with local taxi drivers are excellent condensed lessons as well. How taxes and Superannuation work there, and why some restaurants gave rebate for cash payment.

I agree that simply sight seeing and tasting local food is a great waste of the money spent on accommodation and air ticket…

Spending money on something that I don’t enjoy just because it’s held in some magical esteem by everyone ever is clownery.
Somewhat related...

When dating, I invariably asked dates about goals, plans, interests, etc. to test their character.

One answer that never failed to disinterest me was the "I just want to travel" response.

"I am perfectly content with aimless wandering, having no goals, and a man to foot the bill" is a good translation.

Their response was a hilariously accurate indicator of how well the rest of the date was going to go :)

Very cool. I just love traveling in my motorhome. We call it the beach house. Usually use it for camping on the beach and wilderness trips.

I also love my house with views and crazy wildlife action. 5 acres in the side of a rocky mountain.

I only fly if necessary. Hate the airports and planes.

It's a fantasy for people that don't have power over their time, and/or people that have never left the patch of dirt they were born in. For the former, they dream of "travel" as some mysterious fantastical paradise escape from their shitty reality. For the latter, well they simply haven't seen anything outside of their patch of dirt, so they're genuinely eager to experience novelty.

For those that have experienced the thrills, have seen waterfalls, rainforests, deserts, and the myriad of other environmental and tourist-trap Instagramesque glamours, what begins to reveal itself is often what was once being covered internally. You realize no amount of "travel" or glamour will change how you feel inside - and if you were once trying to subconsciously escape your reality with such an endeavor, you are now left with a bitter realization that there is something within that you must address instead.

If you've never left home - step outside your bubble, there is much to see. If you think that "travel" is what's really missing in your otherwise boring and meaningless life, then you're in for an awkward dose of reality.

I personally enjoy trips out in nature, whether for camping, hiking, or some fun activity. But even those, after a couple of weeks, I get bored and need to get back to life. I'd much rather focus on mission, family, and the little details that make up our otherwise seemingly mundane lives, regardless of where I am, than to sell my soul for the dream of some scam offered with $15 ice-cream cones and a photo-op after waiting in line with the 100 other obnoxious foreign assholes trying to update their profile pictures.

SER CAN YOU TAKE PEECTURE OF ME AND MY WAYFE? IS OUR FERST TIME IN AMERICA, WE RENT CONVERTIBLE MUSTANG TO COME TO GRAND CANYON.

But not as impressive as this guy who's already enlightened us today... ;)

Religion, is it scripted?

Hey guys,

I'm 20% into my second read, unscripted , where you mention some bits on the 3Bs. One of which is "belief", where religion is brought up to be one of the scripted ways in driving out behaviour. - forgive me if I may have misinterpreted.

Question here is, what are your thoughts on religion? For me, I am not born a Christian, however my wife had introduced this belief to me and I've been baptised. She introduced me to TMF , and I thoroughly enjoyed the read. I had a chat with her about my goals of breaking the scripted life and going entrepreneurship for our freedom (financially), to which, she said that I shouldn't be driven by money as we may be judged by God and be corrupted by the greed of wealth etc.

I personally don't believe that. I believe that God knows the true passions of one and money isn't something that corrupts, but enhances who we are deep down.

Sorry for the long backstory and over-complication of such a trivial question, but I guess the gist is, to live unscripted , does it mean I must drop religion?

Hope to hear from your thoughts.

Cheers,

Andrew

You absolutely do not need to drop religion to be unscripted !

Please keep in mind that having a belief and believing in a higher power does not equal going to church and being bossed around by "religious people" who have taken the bible and warped it to their needs. Organized religion, and religion, can be two completely different things.

Do what empowers you. If that is religion then go for it.
